NEWNAN & COWETA COUNTY

Newnan is one of the fastest growing cities in Georgia, with a current population of 33,079. Almost 17,000 newcomers moved to Newnan between the 2000 and 2010 U.S. Census. It is the county seat of Coweta County and is located approximately 40 miles to the southwest of Atlanta, just off Interstate-85.

Newnan is an especially pretty small southern community. Much of its present-day beauty is due to its status as a hospital city during the Civil War, which left it untouched by the violence visited on its neighbors. The result of being spared is an exquisite collection of antebellum architecture, joining its revitalized Downtown and renowned Coweta County African American Heritage Museum and Research Center.
