SUWANEE & DULUTH
A 31-mile drive to the northeast of Atlanta Downtown is the small Gwinnett County City of Suwanee. The 2010 population was 15,355, an amazing growth of 76% over its 2000 population of 8,725!
Suwanee is known throughout the region for its distinctive 500 acres of parks, high quality mixed-use developments and crowd-pleasing events. The most widely known park in Suwanee is Town Center Park. It is a ten-acre park on Buford Highway and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. The park holds the community's special events, and many people gather around in the park whenever something special is going on. The park also has an amphitheater that holds up to 1,000 audience members. Many concerts and other performances are done at the amphitheater. The Town Center Park has Gwinnett County's largest interactive fountain called "Big Splash". The "Big Splash" has 43 jets and uses 1,400 gallons of recycled water each minute. This park is located right next to the Suwanee Public Library.
Duluth is the second largest city in Gwinnett County. It lies 26 miles to the northeast of Atlanta, just a few miles before one gets to Suwanee. Almost 27,000 residents live in Duluth, enjoying its increasingly affluent status as a Metro Atlanta suburb. Forbes Magazine has ranked Duluth as "America's 26th Best Place to Move", and "The Best Affordable Suburb in Georgia", by Business Week Magazine.
Duluth is home to the Gwinnett Place Mall, Gwinnett Medical Center and Gwinnett Center. The Gwinnett Center is a major facility that includes a convention center, performing arts center and an indoor arena that is home to a professional ice hockey team (the Gwinnett Gladiators) and the Georgia Force Arena Football team.
